My husband and I were living in a beautiful home closer to the city, and while we loved it, we knew we weren't fully fulfilled with our wants/needs as homeowners. So we began looking at homes in a country setting with more acreage and views. Once we moved into our new-build semi-custom home, we knew we wanted to begin projects and DIYs to make it our own! I began posting our projects and styling on my Instagram page and was inspired by the support and following I began to experience! I wanted to share our inspiration with others because no matter how big or small the project, it is achievable to make your house your home and reflect YOU as a homeowner. That's how my IG page CountryRhodesLeadHome came to fruition.
My hubby and I both work very demanding full-time jobs outside our home, and everything we do to our home is done ourselves...so that said, we do bits and pieces as we can so we won't overwhelm ourselves. When we found Ageless Iron Hardware, we knew it was the top quality we were searching for! We started with our main entry doors and plan to eventually replace all our home's door hardware with Ageless Iron Hardware.
We already loved the existing hardware style on our doors, but we weren't thrilled with the color or quality. So we decided to keep the same style of knobs but just update from silver to black!
We were able to update our two double-door entrances and our front door all within the same day! It was a quick way to add elegance and beauty to our home. Watching the YouTube videos was incredibly helpful too!
Yes, and we definitely plan to! We love the classic elegance and heavy-duty quality of Ageless Iron Hardware. We feel much more secure in our home due to the level of craftsmanship put into this Ageless Iron. You FEEL an immediate difference!
My design style is a blend of curated pieces personal to me, my family, and my personality. A touch of organic, neutral, modern, boho, and farmhouse all combined to create an aesthetic that describes who we are and what makes us feel at home. For example, we love traveling part-time in our RV, so throughout our home, you'll find pottery pieces from our travels or color tones mixed in our wall art that remind us of our favorite places, indoor plants that bring the outdoors inside, etc. To make our home feel cohesive, I stick to a neutral palette with decor.
I like to find design inspiration in our travels, outdoors in nature, and by following others! I try to stay away from major trends and focus on what truly makes me happy when I walk through our front door each day.
When we begin any project, no matter how big or small, plan plan plan! Make a list of any tools or accessories you may need to complete it (start to finish) and then the steps you'll take to complete it. Writing it down ALWAYS helps because then you can prioritize the steps and process you'll be taking to get it done. And hey, priorities CAN, and usually do, change as you go. And that's ok, too! It just means you'll have to re-route your priorities and steps. I've found that if you have it initially written down, you can more easily adjust as needed, so the results don't get jumbled or lost in the process.
Our home was initially a semi-custom build for another client who changed their mind at the last minute. When my hubby and I walked in, we both looked at each other and just knew, THIS WAS THE ONE! We even looked at it 3 or 4 additional times because we couldn't stop thinking about it! Even though there were the typical "cookie-cutter" things about it, we knew we could make it our own. After moving in, we decided to be in it, as is, for the first year to get a solid feel of what we liked and what we didn't. We found that as time goes on, and after you live in it daily, your perspective can adjust and change. We wanted to be sure that what we did change would be fulfilling.
Always remember that the word transformation can carry a lot of hype, but it can also be subjective. It doesn't have to mean a completely renovated space—it can mean painting an accent wall, adding art to a wall, adding a new light fixture, updating your bedding, or adding a new rug—all these things "transform" a space. Don't limit your definition of transformation!
With our work schedules, my husband and I currently only work on projects in our own home. But I am always an open book with advice and suggestions, and I love to help others!
In addition to wanting to update all our home hardware soon, our next big project is adding a fireplace wall to our master bedroom! Make sure you're following along on CountryRhodesLeadHome for the updates and fun along the way!
